Waterside Class of 2018

Zoe Brown

Spelman College

  • Zoe has always stayed true to who she is. At Sacred Heart Greenwich, she co-led the Diversity and Inclusion Club, organizing celebrations like Hispanic Heritage Month lunches and Soul Fest for Black History Month. Through these events, she encouraged open discussions about identity and the importance of being authentic.

Now at Spelman College, Zoe continues to lead with purpose. As a member of Future Business Leaders of Spelman and Spelpreneur, she’s exploring her passion for expanding housing access in underrepresented communities. Surrounded by ambitious women at a Historically Black College and University, she feels inspired and motivated to grow—both academically and personally.

Much of Zoe’s foundation began at Waterside. Programs like Homework Stars taught her discipline and structure, lessons she still applies today. “Spelman’s motto is ‘A choice to change the world,’” she says. “That’s what Waterside stands for, too.”

Though she graduated years ago, Waterside’s influence remains strong. “My dad once asked if I still carry the W on my chest,” she recalls. “I haven’t worn the uniform in ten years, but I wear the W proudly in my heart.” Waterside gave her confidence, community, and lifelong friendships.

Her advice to current students: stay true to yourself, embrace your uniqueness, and carry the W with pride.
