Community Service

Waterside seeks to instill in every child a sense of belonging to a wider community and a spirit of service and responsibility, which we hope they will carry with them their entire lives. Even the very youngest children learn that they have the power to make a positive difference in the world. In a carefully constructed yearlong program of service learning experiences, children are given opportunities to explore some of the many challenges we face in our world, and are encouraged to seek out ways they can be of help. The School seeks to develop lifelong leaders, human beings who see the world not just as it is, but as it could be. Some recent projects include:

Pennies for Peace – building schools in Afghanistan

Fairfield County Food Bank – assisting local families going through challenging times

Garbage Island Project – cleaning up the world’s oceans

Hope for Haiti – money and supplies for Haiti’s hurricane victims

Amerikids– toy and book drive for children living in difficult circumstances

Local animal shelters– preparation of animal treats

Wounded Warriors– educating the community about the work of this organization,
and raising money to help with its efforts
