The Challenge

With leadership, persons, programs and mission in place, Waterside has the attributes and hallmarks of every great school - save one. Missing is the direct investment of local and state funding that supports public and charter schools or the certainty and scale of tuition revenue which capitalizes the majority of operational expenses for more traditional independent schools. Although every Waterside family pays tuition, most families are able to pay but a small fraction of the annual fee and an even smaller part of the actual cost of the educational experience. As a result, tuition revenue covers but 7% of the School's operating budget.

The balance - the monies that allow the School's operation to flourish and grow - is philanthropy in its purest form. The School's board members have made commitments in both time and resources befitting the importance of the effort and their collective belief in its worth; a number of businesses have honored the concept of "responsible corporate citizen" in deed as well as word; and, possibly most telling for the School's future, a growing and impressive number of individuals and foundations have stepped forward to invest generously and selflessly in the lives of children not their own. The School hopes you might consider joining the ranks of those mentioned and can assure you that your investment will prove as wise as it is kind.
