A Lifelong Partnership: The Alumni Careers Initiative

Waterside builds lifelong partnerships with students and their families, beginning when children enroll at the age of four and continuing throughout college and early career. Today, we’re spotlighting one of several successful alumni programs, the Alumni Careers Initiative.

The Alumni Careers Initiative (ACI) aims to ensure that 100% of Waterside Alumni enter adulthood on paths to fulfilling and meaningful careers. The program was born of necessity in 2020, when four alumni reached out to Waterside because their summer internship was canceled. Now the ACI has a full curriculum including career exploration, resume review, and mentor matching.

This past summer, Waterside alumni interned at Altrinisc Global, Goldman Sachs, Bags, FlowCode, RX Global, and many more organizations. In 2024, we hope to place 50 alumni in paid internships.

Waterside is able to offer innovative programs like this one due to the support of our Annual Fund, the backbone of the School.

This Giving Tuesday, we hope you’ll make a gift to the Annual Fund and allow us to continue supporting our alumni as they navigate their early professional careers. This year, a generous individual is matching all gifts made, so your impact is doubled! Click here to make a gift today.

ACI Spotlight: Arianna Fleuriot, Class of 2011

Arianna Fleuriot, was one of our first ACI participants. While she was a student at American University, she had five different internships, all obtained through the network provided by the ACI. She interned at KHL Consulting, Cowen Capital, Balance Point Capital Partners, Bags, and Stone Point Capital.

“Every internship Waterside has connected me with has been pivotal in determining my career path and has allowed me to discover a way to merge my passion for law, advocacy, and finance,” Arianna said. “Waterside has truly been with me every step of the way and has supported me through it all.”

When she was in second grade, Arianna decided she wanted to become a lawyer. Her internships, and the determination she developed at Waterside, helped guide her decision to study corporate law at UConn School of Law this fall.

On track to become one of Waterside’s first alumni lawyers, Arianna hopes to give back to the School’s community by serving as a mentor and resource for our students and alumni interested in law.

“The truth is Waterside is not just an elementary school, and it’s not just a network for super cool internships. Waterside is a family, with a shared mantra to Work Hard, Be Kind, and Respect Learning. I won’t be able to say I’ve made it until I can give back to Waterside and pay it forward.” – Arianna Fleuriot
