The Challenge - Waterside School

With leadership, persons, programs and mission in place, Waterside has the attributes and hallmarks of every great school - save one.

Missing is the assured source of local and state funding that supports public and charter schools or the certainty and scale of tuition revenue which capitalizes the majority of operational expenses for more traditional independent schools. Although every Waterside family does pay tuition, all families are asked to pay only as they can afford and, in turn, tuition revenue offsets but a small fraction of the actual cost of the full educational experience.

The balance of funding – the monies that allow the School’s operation to flourish and grow – is derived from philanthropy in its absolute purest form. The School’s Board members have made commitments in both time and resources commensurate with the importance of the effort and their belief in its worth; a number of businesses have honored the concept of “responsible corporate citizen” in deed as well as word; and, most important, a growing number of individuals and foundations have stepped forward to invest generously and selflessly in the lives of children not their own.
