Tomorrow is the International Festival! The day wi

Tomorrow is the International Festival! The day will begin with our traditional Parade of Countries, featuring 38 nations that make up Waterside’s student body.

Following the Parade, each grade level will share a piece of their class’ culture through dance. This year, we’ll see dances and hear songs from Colombia, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, and Mexico. The fourth and fifth graders will close out the Festival by sharing West African culture through dance and drumming. The day will conclude with a feast made up of foods provided by our community members. It’s sure to be a joyful celebration of the diversity of Waterside!

Happy Waterside Wednesday! 💙

Last week, the Class of 2024 and four members from the Class of 2025 shared where they will be matriculating after graduating from Waterside this spring. Here are a few moments captured in celebration of their hard work and efforts at this year’s Reveal Day.

For more than a decade, 100% of Waterside graduates have been admitted to top independent schools. We are proud that this year’s graduating students will be enrolling at @brunswickschool (2), @ehsgreenwich (2), @greensfarmsacademy, @gwichacademy (2), @gcdstigers (2), @kingschoolct (2), @mastersschool, @themeadschool, @nccountryschool, @shgreenwich (2), @holychildrye, and @stlukesct (2).

Our third graders were given the task to gather recycled materials to create self-portraits. Students have been using recycled materials to build beautiful artwork since we were founded in 2001.

April is Math and Statistics Awareness Month! This

April is Math and Statistics Awareness Month! This spring, our third graders have been working on a graphs and surveys unit for math.

Third-grade teacher Ms. Seidel shared her experience:
“I derive joy from observing students consistently engaging with different concepts and confronting challenging problems. Experiencing those “eureka!” moments together makes math feel attainable, even in the most challenging lessons. Together, we embrace the process of grappling with difficult concepts. While some challenges may require several lessons to master, our students persevere without giving up. As an educator, witnessing this determination and the grapple is an absolute dream for me.”

Our faculty and staff work to instill a love for learning at an early age and we are proud of the work our students put in on a daily basis. This effort truly pays off - our current third through fifth grade students are all testing at or above grade level in math. It is a privilege to help our students develop a strong foundation of mathematics, and nurture a love for math as well.
