Like all events this year, Saturday’s 5K looked different than most, with only Waterside students running at school and the rest of the participants running or walking virtually. Still, hundreds of participants around the country and even abroad- many of whom learned of Waterside School through Jeff’s deep commitment to the cause- ran or walked on their own, proving that even when apart, together we are “Waterside Strong.”

Driven by the school’s mission to provide opportunities for children regardless of circumstance, corporate and local sponsors gave generously to support the event. Additionally, students from many of Waterside’s destinations schools- Brunswick, Greenwich Academy, Greenwich Country Day, St. Luke’s, et al. as well as numerous Waterside alumni- participated happily and proudly from afar.

The Run For Waterside raised over $350,000 to support the Jeffrey Hammond Long Scholarship Fund, ensuring that Jeff’s example and spirit will be shared with the children of Waterside forever. Though there wasn’t the typical throng of supporters, the spirit of the morning and the love and memories shared defined the day’s success. The day was bittersweet for many, but the event reflected the joy, kindness and sheer goodness that defined a life fully and generously lived.
