Waterside Class of 2006

Katherine Medina ’06

Manhattanville College

  • “I always wanted to be a teacher at Waterside and give back to the community that helped raise me. I see myself in these students.”

Katherine Medina ’06 began her Waterside journey in 2001 as part of our founding class. From the very beginning, she was immersed in a community that celebrated high standards and curiosity.

A first-generation college graduate, Katherine navigated the college application process with resilience and determination, qualities she credits to the foundation she built at Waterside. Now, a graduate of Manhattanville University, she has come full circle, returning to Waterside as a beloved kindergarten teacher.

In her classroom, she provides targeted, one-on-one instruction in early literacy, guides students through foundational math concepts, develops a social studies curriculum that celebrates global cultures, and teaches students to write their first nonfiction pieces.

Katherine fosters academic growth, self-confidence, and the belief that anything is possible. “There are little Katherines everywhere,” she says. “I want them to feel seen and empowered, just as I felt at Waterside.”
