Welcome back, Waterside! After a refreshing spring

Welcome back, Waterside! After a refreshing spring break, we are overjoyed that our students are back at the School. 💙

Our Spring newsletter was sent before we left on break and highlighted some exciting activities from the first half of this semester. We're particularly proud that PAF, our literacy curriculum, featured our students and teachers in demonstration videos that will be shared with other schools. Additional stories include Black History Month at Waterside and our students’ field trip to work with artist Owen Jones on Stamford’s Kindness Mural on Henry St.

Happy Waterside Wednesday! 💙

Before we left for spring break, the School hosted the return of Pizza Bingo Night for the first time since 2019. The event is a simple combination of two things our community loves - Pizza and Bingo! 400 people packed the gym, and excitement flowed as squares were called and prizes were given out to winners that night!

As the school year continues, we look forward to the return of many other Waterside events, like the International Festival in April and the school musical in May. Thank you to all the faculty, staff, and parents that made this event possible. Enjoy the rest of your spring break, and see you soon!

We pride ourselves at Waterside on having an impec

We pride ourselves at Waterside on having an impeccable faculty and staff that fosters a kind and respectful environment for our students. Tanya Velez, a mother of two Waterside alumni, has been a part of our community since our first years in opening the School.

Tanya first came to Waterside as a kindergarten teacher at our original location at 535 Fairfield Avenue. Since the beginning, Tanya has supported our mission as both a teacher and a parent––her sons, Juan and Juaquin, are both Waterside alumni. After working at Waterside for ten years, she transitioned to the field of social work while pursuing her Master’s. We were delighted to welcome her back to campus this fall as a school counselor.

“I’m enjoying the time I get to spend with the kids again,” she shared. “Throughout my adulthood, I loved coming to Waterside because it felt like I was coming back home.”

Happy Waterside Wednesday! 💙

Last week, we celebrated the end of our basketball season with the traditional fifth-grade vs. faculty game! Our gym was crowded with students, teachers, and parents cheering on both sides. We’re proud of our fourth and fifth-grade students for working so hard this season and learning to persevere through challenges––many of the teams they faced were made up of middle school students. It was amazing to end the season together in our gym!
