Waterside builds lifelong relationships among its alumni. The creation of the Alumni Mentorship Program this year allows for deeper connections between graduates at our partner schools. This program pairs sixth graders with Waterside alumni who already attend their school, and is designed to support our students during their middle school transitions.

Blake Brown ‘23 is a sixth grader at Greenwich Country Day School. He’s jumped right into activities, continuing to play the trumpet, which he began at Waterside, and joining the flag football team. Steve Paul ‘17 is in his final year at GCDS; he is the captain of the track team, part of the Engineering Diploma Program, and is a member of several social justice clubs that promote diversity at the school. The two have been partnered through the Alumni Mentorship Program.
As one of our alumni counselors for Waterside’s Summer Program, Steve is familiar with serving as a role model for younger students, as well as how to navigate the learning curves of middle school. When he was given the opportunity to become an alumni mentor, Steve signed right up.
“I know how challenging the transition from Waterside to middle school can be,” Steve shared. “I wanted to help support a new Waterside graduate and to let them know that they have a friendly face on campus.”

Blake, for his part, said, “Steve has been great and I can’t wait to continue being mentored by him. It is bittersweet knowing I only have him for one more year as a GCDS student but hopefully, I can have him as a mentor forever.”
The Alumni Mentorship Program is just one of many ways that Waterside fosters lifelong relationships with and among our alumni. Thanks to the flexibility of our Annual Fund, the backbone of the School, we are able to offer these programs to support our alumni on their path to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
